McGill Friendship Questionnaires
Primary use / Purpose:
The MFQ-RA is a 16 item questionnaire measuring respondent’s feelings towards a friend/friendship. Positive statements about the friendship are responded to along a 9-point scale from “very much disagree” to “very much agree”.
Background:
Drawing from earlier friendship questionnaires such as “the Friendship Questionnaire” and the “Friendship Qualities scale”, the McGill Friendship Questionnaire – Respondent’s affection (MFQ-RA) was designed to measure both feelings for a friend (Positive Feelings subscale) and satisfaction with the friendship (Satisfaction subscale).
Psychometrics:
The psychometric properties of the instrument have been examined by Mendelson and Aboud (1997). This unpublished manuscript is available below.
